I've always been drawn to vibrant color and could tune into the way space, lighting, tone and hue had the power to activate subtle emotion in me. Akin to the comedian who's mastered the art of exhilarating a crowd through vocal manipulation, timing and storytelling, I like to think that over the years I've developed a degree of technique to activate and stimulate subtle scales of emotion in the viewer.
This idea that various powderized compounds ground into paste can then be blended with a hairy wand into pure magic of visual storytelling has never ceased to amaze me. Nothing excites me more than oil paint and its power to heal by oscillating a vibration of emotion, striking a unique chord with each individual viewer. Painting has all the qualities of a ceremony.
Intuitively sifting through tubes of color while paying attention to my mood in the process and how that might translate to canvas is a pleasure. My best work is driven when intuition is confident, spirit is high, and energy is balanced and moving. Spontaneity coupled with joy and love of craft bring about healing results for both artist and viewer.
A successful piece is when play and unbounded expression make it to canvas. Just as the comedian brings levity to this earth through healing laughter, I can only strive as the painter to bring about healing through the transformative and alchemical play of dancing pigment.
